Volker Stevin was contracted to replace 212 bearings between the Crowchild over Bow River and Crowchild over Memorial Drive bridges by jacking the superstructure with active traffic flowing above. Unique jacking equipment, procedures, and in house expertise ensured project success.
This structure was built to control flows from the Travers Reservoir into a canal feeding the Little Bow Reservoir. Total cast-in-place concrete volume was approximately 1,300 cubic meters.
This project features the construction of a three span concrete girder bridge and the demolition of a single span pony truss with two timber jump spans.
The addition of this sidewalk is part of the City's Parks Bikeway/Pathway Master Plan. The construction of a new pathway from 9th Avenue N to 1st Avenue S will complete the missing link from the north via Scenic Drive to City Centre.
The Southern Alberta Fisheries Habitat Enhancement and Sustainability (FISHES) Program was developed to mitigate the risks to the aquatic environment caused by the magnitude and extent of instream activities following the 2013 Flood. The installation of a strategically placed bridge over Waiparous Creek aims to funnel traffic to a proper crossing rather than to several in stream crossings that greatly disturb the aquatic environment. Volker Stevin was selected as the preferred proponent through an evaluated Request for Proposal process.
Volker Stevin was contracted to complete a major rehabilitation on this structure including concrete repairs, guardrail upgrades, and fiber strengthening of structural elements.
